A Second Birthday Built by Community

Birthdays are funny things. You blow out candles, make a wish, and hope the year ahead nrings good things. But when a charity turns two, the celebration feels different. It’s not about the cake, it’s abpout people, community, and everything that has happened because a group of strangers decided to show up and cook for others.

Last week, we celebrated our second birthday in the best way we know how: with open kitchens, full pans, and two cities cooking side-by-side.

A Tale of Two Kitchens

From the moment our doors opened, something special happened; people wandered in, some alone, some with friends, some simply curious…and within minutes, sleeves were rolled up, and Cambridge Street Collective and Alfred Works came alive.

This was our impact:

110 meals cooked in Sheffield, donated to the Archer Project.

100 meals cooked in Birmingham, donated to Feedo Needo.

That’s 210 meals cooked by our communities, for our communities, in a single month, and we are so proud of that.

One of the things that made this month truly special was seeing so many new faces walk through our doors. People who had never heard of us before, who came along and got stuck in, and left having done something rewarding.

That’s exactly what we’re about. And seeing it happen in both cities reminded us why we started.

Food has a way of dissolving awkwardness and building confidence. Watching strangers become teammates over a chopping board never gets old…and it’s at the heart of everything we do.

Evening Celebrations: A Year Worth Remembering

When the cooking wrapped up, the celebrations began. Our annual birthday party brought together everyone who’s been part of this journey: volunteers, partners, supporters, and the incredible team behind it all.

This year was a moment to pause and look back at what’s been achieved.

24 Months of Impact

In just two years, our cookery schools have welcomed 4,401 people through the doors, all learning, cooking, growing, and discovering what they’re capable of.

Across 436 activations, 861 hours of food education, and 1,165 donated meals, the impact of Blend Culinary Foundation speaks for itself. Every session, every apron, every single conversation has helped to build something bigger than any of us could have planned.

And none of this would be possible without the team behind it all – Wendy, Niki, Lauren, Hannah, and Lucy. Your energy and hard work is what makes BCF thrive.

Cooking Together to Celebrate Together

To mark the milestone, members of Blend Family joined the open cooking day, helping to prepare meals for local charities and getting everything ready for the evening’s celebrations. It was the perfect way to honour the work that happens here every single day: hands-on, community-first, and rooted in the belief that food brings people together.

Happy Second Birthday, Blend Culinary Foundation

Here’s to the meals cooked, the confidence built, the friendships formed, and the thousands of people who’ve stepped into our kitchens and left with something more than a recipe.

Two years down, countless lives touched…and we’re only just getting started.
